After retiring from Retail Food Group Australia in 2003 I still felt the need to continue in business on my own. My first choice was development of a wood fire pizza concept. I thought at the time wood fire pizza wasn’t very common in South East Queensland and decided to try and exploit the opportunity. What was needed of course was a catchy name and strong brand and my friends at Zarraffas Coffee recommended Graphic Artist Julie McCoy. Julie was very busy at the time however liked the idea of wood fire pizza and following discussions agreed to work on the brand development. We decided PIZZACAKE fitted the criteria with focus on simplicity i.e. nothing was too much trouble at Pizzacake, it was too easy or a ‘piece of cake’. Julie developed a striking brand with the caption ‘simple wood fired perfection’ and the caption captured the model and the challenge beautifully.
