I've been a commercial designer for over 25 years, starting my career as the junior, in-house graphic designer for Conrad International Hotel & Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast back in the late 80s. Trained by the early Apple and Adobe teams in Sydney, my role was created specifically for me, out of the "Profit Enhancement Program", taking me from the HR/Training Department, to support the senior designer and marketing services manager by researching, training and implementing the new Apple Macintosh computer/operating systems. I was promoted within six months and enjoyed a 5 year period of big budget design and marketing campaigns, from lavish special events for high rollers, to restaurant promotional materials and menus, hotel in-room compendiums, facility wide promotions, print advertising and a whole lot more. I gained remarkable insights working alongside exceptional senior management, brought in from all over the world and I grabbed every opportunity available to learn about, or even cross train in, the many and varied departments of this business including executive administration, enabling me to design from an informed perspective.
I went on to establish the marketing services department for Conrad Treasury Casino Brisbane pre-opening, and ran it for 3.5 years working alongside an executive committee that included Grant R. Bowie and David Hilton.
I have worked with Mojo and McCann-Erickson advertising agencies; Beyondedge Multi-Media and Interactive Training; and was production manager, account manager and designer to the renowned Peter Sexty Design, with clients including Hyatt Regency Coolum, Stockland Group, Sunland Group, Herron Todd White, Promedia, Moreton Hire, Seaworld Nara Resort and Griffith University.
I established McCoy Design in 1998 seizing the opportunity to provide a bespoke service to a niche clientele who demanded advertising agency standards but with more personal and dedicated service.
The scope of my services is diverse, from business startup support, strategy and administration, establishing brand positioning, brand development, graphic design spanning all mediums, digital media/advertising, website development and design.
My remarkable international clientele spans a diverse range of industries from investment (renewables), finance, global B2B networking and support services, exporting, importing, distribution, retail, wholesale, manufacturing, engineering, franchising, hospitality, health/medical and more.
I have worked on major events such as Indy GP, Mercedes-Benz Cup, Magic Millions and the Royal Queensland Show - EKKA (4 years producing signage, advertising, promotional materials, invites, show guides, etc.).
I have worked with Franchise Groups, including Zarraffa's Coffee (working with Kenton Campbell, from 2 stores up to 35 over a 9 year period) and currently Home Instead Senior Care Australia (working with Martin Warner, currently with 19 franchise offices).
Retail experience includes The Perfume Connection chain of stores (from 8 stores up to 36 over a 7 year period); re-branding Samsara Bundall into Biku Furniture & Homewares, UGG Australian Made and many more.
I have extensive hospitality experience and I am currently the Director of 2 Stubborn Mules, providing kitchen operations/restaurant consultancy and contract chef services. As well as Conrad Hotels, I have worked with Hyatt Hotels, Parkroyal Hotels, Outrigger, Griffith University - School of Tourism & Hospitality, Grumpy's Restaurant, Zarraffa's Coffee, Java Gourmet Coffee Co., Catalyst Hospitality Management, Mona Vale Hotel, Mon Komo Hotel, Kyko Property Group, Evolution Facility Management, The Maroon Group, Devour Breads & Cafe (re-branding from Baker's Club) and many more.
I have cross-trained extensively in other areas of business; Accounts (Dip. Accounting UK), F&B Administration, Purchasing, Inventory Control, Human Resources & Training (a member of the team that established Conrad College), International Hotel Front Office (Supervisor) and Executive Administration.
All this culminates in a fundamental clarity as to the challenges that business leaders face.
