Julie McCoy

This is not a job, this is my passion, my calling. I love taking a client's seed of an idea and working with them, as partners, to not just bring their idea to life, but to totally 'wow' them, exceeding their expectations, to make them excited, give them the confidence to drive their venture forward, be there for them for the journey. An absolutely incredible career.

  • 28 years+ of experience.
  • 1989 Junior Graphic Designer for Conrad Hotel & Jupiters Casino, Gold Coast. A role created for me to support the senior designer and marketing services manager, involved training with the early Apple and Adobe teams (with the dynamic co-developer of Photoshop, Russell Brown) in Sydney, implementing the early Apple Macs (IIFX). Promptly promoted, I enjoyed 5 years of big budget design and marketing campaigns. Working with executive management from all over the world, and I grabbed every opportunity to learn and cross-trained in many departments.
  • 1994 appointed to establish the Marketing Services department for Conrad Treasury Casino Brisbane from pre-opening, I ran it for 4 years working alongside an executive committee that included Grant R. Bowie and David Hilton, through the launch phase, the implementation of the loyalty program, working with the Heritage Society to oversee the production of a book and historic tour brochures, producing gaming machine graphics, signage, special events marketing materials plus all the day-to-day graphic design needs for hotel, casino and F&B outlets.
  • I have worked with advertising agencies including Mojo, McCann-Erickson and Beyondedge, and was production manager, account manager and designer at Sexty Design, with clients including Hyatt Regency Coolum, Stockland Group, Sunland Group, Herron Todd White, Promedia, Moreton Hire, Seaworld Nara Resort and Griffith University.
  • 1998 established McCoy Design, providing a bespoke service to clientele who demanded advertising agency standards but with more personal and dedicated service, providing business startup support, strategy and administration, working closely with the client to turn an idea into an outstanding reality, establishing brand positioning, brand development, graphic design spanning all mediums, digital media/advertising, website development and design, and b2b networking.
  • Clientele spans a diverse range of industries from investment (renewables), finance, global B2B networking and support services, exporting, importing, distribution, retail, wholesale, manufacturing, distilling, engineering, franchising, hospitality, health/medical and more.
  • Major events include Honda Indy GP, Mercedes-Benz Cup, Magic Millions, the Royal Queensland Show - EKKA (4 years producing signage, advertising, promotional materials, invites, show guides, etc.) and Primex.
  • Franchise groups include Zarraffa's Coffee (working with Kenton Campbell from 2 stores up to 35 over a 9 year period) and Home Instead Senior Care Australia.
  • Retail design includes The Perfume Connection chain of stores (from 8 stores up to 36 over a 7 year period); re-branding Samsara Bundall into Biku Furniture & Homewares and UGG Australian Made .

Management groups inc. Catalyst Hospitality Management, Kyko Property Group, Evolution Facility Management and The Maroon Group.
  • Cross-trained in other areas of business inc. all aspects of Accounts (Dip. Accounting UK), F&B Admin., Purchasing, Inventory Control, Retail, HR, Training (coordinating the implementation of Conrad College), Hotel Front Office Supervisor, Executive Admin.
Further training inc. Train the Trainer, Staff Instructor, Customer Service, Business Leadership, Lateral Thinking and Six Thinking Caps with Prof. Edward De Bono.
  • Retainers: I offer my services on a retainer basis for larger projects, offering a sliding scale of packages. I am currently brand developer and manager for Lord Byron Distillery, Primex - The Great Australian Primary Industries Expo and Baildon Group.
  • Intellectual property trademark registration guidance in association with IP expert lawyers.
  • Trusted Confidant: The most remarkable individuals that I have worked with are also the most humble and are rarely comfortable with promoting themselves and their incredible achievements. I work with them to develop their personal brand, getting to the crux of their ethos, understanding their "why", drawing out all that they have accomplished in life and in their career, their goals and aspirations, then I create their public profile, re-writing their biography and curriculum vitae, LinkedIn profile, Wikipedia page, etc. for public speaking engagements, appointment to high-profile executive boards, presentations to investors, centre management, etc. or tailored to a specific career opportunity. This is one of my favourite and most humbling roles.

My knowledge and experience culminates in a fundamental clarity as to the challenges that business leaders face and support they require. I work with my clients as a partner, respectful of each others' experience and knowledge. I develop a clear understanding of their industry, competitors, products/services, their code of ethics, customer demographics (current and intended) and we work together in the best interest of their business. There is a remarkable synergy across my clientele plus I have access to a network of outstanding individuals and business support services.
